The Saga of Lily

(Warning-long!)As we have come to find out our Lily doesn't have the best luck when it comes to her health. But this we were not expecting... As you know our LILY lou was due to give birth to her one puppy this weekend. On wednesday morning her water broke, so i called the vet and they she should have the baby within 24 hours. So i was thinking we had all day, i took her to work with me anyway, just to keep an eye on her. Shortly after getting there she went into labor which involves, pacing, panting, nesting (moving around blankets to get comfy)... So i called again to let them know she was progressing quickly, they let me know that if i could see contractions they don't want her pushing for more than an hour without being at the vet with help. I didn't see any pushing yet so i went on with my work. Maybe five minutes later i look down to give her a pet and i see the sac of the baby already sticking out!! (It has been maybe 40min total since the water broke) So i run and get Chris out of his meeting and call the vet yet again...They said if the baby isn't out in 10 minutes to bring her over (luckily the vet is literally a 30 sec drive away). So about 4 min later no improvement BUT the little sac around the baby just popped(which is bad, the baby needed oxygen at this point) so the vet says tug on the baby and try and help it out, so i pull...but nothing but cries from Lily, still on the phone the Dr says to bring her right over, 30 seconds later we were there and he was putting on all sorts of lube and pulling this baby out! Our worst fears were realized when he said there was no way the head was fitting through the bone, and there was a good chance the baby was already dead...So option 1-Cut off the baby's body and go in for the head (Iknow so graphic i couldn't believe it). Option 2- push the baby all the way back inside and do a C-section(which there wasn't much time for). So we asked him to try and find the baby heartbeat one last time, because the feet and pinked up(which were blue for a while). He did find it so we went ahead and asked for the c-section. What seemed like a year of pacing the nurse said Lily was fine and the baby was out but as expected wasn't breathing on its own. They tried for 30 minutes to try and stimulate the baby to breathe but it was too late. We were very sad but after losing Cede last fall we were thinking of Lily mostly. It was hard because the whole body of the baby was out and it was a boy, black with white feet exactly like tux...But with mostly no attachment we waited for more news on lily. The dr then told us he was in a hurry to get to the puppy so he cut lily's cervix, so no more babies for her. Which is FINE with us, i never want to see her in that much pain again! AFter she was sewn up i got to see her for just a min for a kiss and they had to keep her the rest of the day because her temp dropped so low. Normally dogs temp drop 3 degrees during labor, her's kept going to 96..So the kept her in an incubator of some kind. LUCKILY i got to bring her home for the night, which was long...She is now on STRICT bed ReSt for 10-14days--Does anyone know how to keep a dog on bed rest?? Haha she is feeling better so she tries to jump off the couch which is strictly prohibited so im spending all my time watching her now making sure she doesn't do anything but sit and sleep. This is her incision, If you think this is gross you should thank me for not posting pics of the rest of her, her poor body is sooo torn and bruised from a very large puppy and vet hand inside her for 20 min. BUt we are mostly in the clear we just have to check everyday and make sure she isn't getting infections in her mammary glands since the puppy isnt going to be here to be nursing. I am so glad she is home safe and doing well for the most part! We love our dogs so much, Tux is dying right now, he isn't allowed to be anywhere near lily for 2 weeks!!! If he lays on her, steps on her or anything too rough it could be super bad. But here are some pics of her recovering. And im sorry i don't have a cute little puppy pic to be showing, we were so looking forward to giving the puppy to Chris's parents as a gift, but we are happy with Lily just being okay and recovering fully.

Her poor body is full of milk and nothing to do with it, i know the pic is kinda gross, but i know us girls can imagine how painful that must be.

Luckily she is on morphine for a while so the bedrest will be easy.
But i tell ya, keeping her from jumping off and on the couch is really hard! I feel like all i do is follow here around haha
